Virginia SNAP recipients will continue receiving food assistance despite the federal government shutdown, following a state of emergency declared by Gov. Glenn Youngkin. The new Virginia Emergency Nutrition Assistance program will use existing SNAP EBT cards to distribute weekly benefits starting Monday if the shutdown continues. Funds, totaling roughly $37.5 million from the state surplus, will be divided into four weekly installments for each household. Local officials in Gloucester and Mathews counties are coordinating with food banks to support residents.
