Virginia School Divisions Certify Parental Rights Compliance

All 136 school divisions in Virginia have confirmed they’re following state laws on parental rights. The Department of Education requested the assurance to ensure transparency and legal compliance. This move following a directive from the U.S. Department of Education. The federal agency sought evidence of compliance with laws ensuring parental access to education records and student safety standards. Virginia Governor Glenn Youngkin has made parental rights a priority, enacting policies to inform parents about various issues in schools. Efforts to pass legislation like Sage’s Law, which would require parental notification regarding gender identity questions, have faced challenges in the state legislature.
