Virginia rolled out its new K-12 school accountability ratings last week, measuring student performance alongside traditional accreditation. In the Richmond area, more than a quarter of schools are rated off track, with another 17% needing intensive support. Ratings consider SOL scores, graduation rates, chronic absenteeism, and advanced coursework, assigning schools as distinguished, on track, off track, or needing intensive support. Across metro Richmond, 102 of 196 schools meet or exceed expectations, while the rest face challenges under the new system.
