Authorities are warning of heightened fire risk across central and southern Virginia today, including right here in our area, particularly Gloucester County. Forecasters say strong westerly winds up to 25 mph, low humidity between 25 and 30 percent, and dry vegetation are creating conditions where fires could spread quickly. Officials advise residents to avoid outdoor burning and exercise caution with machinery, cigarettes, and matches. The advisory is in effect from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m.
