THMS Students Receive Grant to Expand Breakfast Bag Program

Thomas Hunter Middle School students are boosting efforts to fight food insecurity after receiving a $500 grant from the Foundation for Impact on Literacy and Learning and Albertsons Companies Foundation’s Nourishing Neighbors program. The grant will help fund the school’s Explore.Act.Tell initiative, where students assemble breakfast bags for local homeless outreach. Last year, Thomas Hunter Middle School students delivered 300 breakfast bags, and this year they’ve partnered with Mathews High School to collect additional supplies. Each student contributes a single non-perishable item to collectively prepare 100 or more breakfast bags, while also supporting a canned food drive benefiting Hands Across Mathews.
