Mathews County residents raised alarms over school security at a recent school board town hall at Thomas Hunter Middle School. Attendees cited incidents involving weapons and argued the absence of School Resource Officers left schools vulnerable. School officials said that they are working with the sheriff’s office on grants to restore School Resource Officers positions and improve safety measures, including electronic doors and weapons detection systems.
