Work to remove sand at Mill Creek boat ramp in Wake is now underway to reopen the ramp for trailered boats. Two excavators and several trucks have been dredging sand pushed in by wind, seas, and storms. Officials say the ramp is 50 to 75 percent cleared and should reopen soon. The Virginia Marine Resources Commission requires a post-dredge survey, which the county contracted to Bay Design Group for $3,500. The total project cost is about $7,500, and officials say routine dredging remains the most cost-effective solution for the popular ramp.
