River Road To Close For Six Months For Culvert Replacement

River Road in Lancaster County will close for up to six months starting March 3 as crews replace drainage pipes with a concrete box culvert at Deep Creek. The project is being handled by the Virginia Department of Transportation. The closure will affect River Road between Mary Ball and White Chapel roads while workers remove three pipes, install a 76-foot-long concrete box culvert, and rebuild the roadway. The culvert is roughly the length of two school buses. Motorists will be detoured about four miles, with signs and message boards posted in advance. Residential driveway access will be maintained, and weather permitting, the project is expected to wrap up by September.
