Lots of recent action centering around the Northumberland County School Board. The board has ousted Superintendent Dr. Holly Wargo and quickly moved to offer the job to her deputy. Wargo was removed without cause in a 3-2 vote May 8, following a closed session. Board member Dr. David Curran said the decision was meant to help the board move forward after a year of financial disarray. Wargo had served nine years. Days later, the board voted unanimously to reject the resignation of acting superintendent Dr. Karen Leslie and offered her the top job. Leslie had stepped in after Wargo’s dismissal. The board also approved a $22.4 million budget and noted improving student test scores, including a sharp rise in high school world history pass rates.
