Middlesex County supervisors voted unanimously to join a federal grant program aimed at improving infrastructure for commercial fishermen at three county sites. Concerns were raised that the Stampers Bay and Mill Creek projects may not benefit the broader community and could create conflicts with homeowners and recreational users. The Middle Peninsula Regional Planning District Commission says the sites, along with Whitings Creek in Locust Hill, were identified as best suited for watermen, while officials continue exploring locations in Mathews, Gloucester, Essex counties, and Tappahannock. The vote allows supervisors input on specific uses as the grant process moves forward.
