Middlesex County Administrator Matt Walker announced he will retire March 31, 2026, after more than 32 years in Virginia local government, including 14 years leading Middlesex County. Walker oversaw major projects such as the creation of the Middlesex Broadband and Water authorities, upgrades to the E911 system, and tourism initiatives that boosted the local economy. Walker said he leaves with “a heart full of gratitude” and plans to remain active in local civic organizations and with family after retirement.
