Kilmarnock Approves $930,500 Well Project, Eyes Bike Trails and New Grants

The Kilmarnock Town Council’s recent meeting was a busy one. Town leaders have approved a $930,500 contract to replace the aging Hawthorne Avenue well, bringing the system up to Virginia Department of Environmental Quality standards. The project will be funded through a mix of current dollars, short-term financing, and pending federal and state assistance, with construction planned during the 2026–27 fiscal year. Council also heard a proposal from local cyclists for recreational bike trails near Town Centre Park and accepted new grant funding, including $75,000 for revitalization efforts and $50,000 from the Virginia Department of Conservation and Recreation to develop a flood resiliency plan.
