Former JMU student Liam Conaway received a 20-year federal prison sentence for distributing fentanyl-laced pills that led to the death of Fairfax County teen Cayden Foster in January 2023. Foster died of an overdose while on a FaceTime call with a friend. Conaway admitted to obtaining and selling the deadly pills. His supplier, Bessy Jimenez Mejia, was sentenced to 15 years in federal prison. Cayden’s parents, Sean and Afrodita Foster, and dozens of his friends attended the sentencing, seeking justice for the teen’s death.
