Dragon Run Conservation Effort Tops 650 Acres Preserved

More than 650 acres of critical wildlife habitat have now been permanently protected along Dragon Run, a rare blackwater system that flows into the Piankatank River and ultimately the Chesapeake Bay.
The milestone was announced by Friends of Dragon Run and Chesapeake Conservancy and protects more than two and a half miles of stream frontage, strengthening a key wildlife corridor. Organizers say the project brings total protected land in the watershed to more than 25,000 acres, with major funding support from National Fish and Wildlife Foundation and private donors. The preserved land will remain open for managed outdoor recreation and environmental education.
