Virginia State Police are investigating a death along New Point Comfort Highway in Mathews County after a request from the Mathews County Sheriff’s Office. The victim is identified as 59 year old Tina M. Wells of Mathews, the county’s Commonwealth’s Attorney, who suffered an apparent gunshot wound. Investigators say there is no indication at this time that a suspect is involved. The case remains an open and active investigation.
