Local election offices in Gloucester and Mathews are urging candidates to file early for the November election. The deadline to qualify is June 17, the same day as the primary. Gloucester has three school board and three board of supervisors seats open; Mathews has two each. So far, Gloucester’s school board has no candidates. Early filers lock in higher ballot placement. Voters start casting primary ballots May 2. Only Democrats will vote in the primary for Lieutenant Governor and Attorney General after a Republican candidate dropped out.
