Another Outer Banks Home Collapses Into Ocean as Erosion Accelerates

Just south of us, yet another house has fallen into the Atlantic on North Carolina’s Outer Banks, the 28th collapse since 2020 as coastal erosion keeps chewing away at the shoreline. The latest home came down early Sunday in Buxton during a winter storm packing 50 to 60 mile-per-hour winds. Officials say the house was unoccupied, but debris was scattered along the beach as waves pounded the coast. Officials in Dare County, North Carolina say Buxton has now become the main trouble spot, with 16 collapses so far and two more homes currently at risk.
