Budget Cuts May Be Necessary To Rein In Expenses In Mathews County

During a joint work session with the Mathews County School Board, Supervisors warned of budget cuts that lie ahead, with some members stating that reductions are necessary. The school board’s $18.17 million budget includes a $404,000 increase in county contributions, but it faces challenges, including declining enrollment and rising costs. Some of the proposed cost-saving measures include reducing pay increases and reviewing non-essential programs. The board is expected to finalize the county’s overall budget by April 17.
