FCC Considering End To PBS/NPR Funding

The chairman of the Federal Communications Commission has ordered an investigation into NPR and PBS’s sponsorships, expressing concerns that their member stations may be airing commercials that violate federal law. NPR’s chief executive meanwhile, claims that their sponsorships comply with regulations, while PBS simply emphasized its commitment to noncommercial educational programming. Meanwhile, Chairman Brendan Carr questions the need for taxpayer funding of NPR and PBS if they are airing commercial advertisements.
