At their most recent meeting, and in what was the final Montross Town Council meeting of 2024, Mayor Terry Cosgrove addressed ongoing issues between Westmoreland County and Republic Waste Services regarding trash disposal fees. A budget shortfall last year resulted in Republic charging the county for hauling fees, which led to changes in the system. As a result, Montross residents now face higher disposal costs, as their contracted hauler, American Hauling, is being charged by weight at the transfer station. Mayor Cosgrove expressed concerns over the added costs and called for a solution that ensures fair access for all county residents.
