Virginia ABC Rejects Happy Hour Extension Request

The Virginia Alcoholic Beverage Control Authority has rejected a proposal to extend the state’s happy hour beyond the current 9 p.m. cutoff. The request came from the Virginia Restaurant, Lodging and Travel Association, which argued a later happy hour could help attract late-night customers and support struggling businesses. The proposal drew opposition from public safety advocates who warned longer drink specials could increase alcohol-related crashes. In a statement, Virginia ABC said its board considered the request and decided to take no action.
