Virginia Democrats Push New Taxes On Everyday Services

Virginia Democrats are rolling out more than 50 new tax proposals, targeting services ranging from dog walking and dry cleaning to gym memberships, gun purchases and home repairs, despite campaigning on affordability. The package also includes new income tax brackets, added local sales taxes, and fees on deliveries from companies like Amazon, Uber Eats, FedEx and UPS in northern Virginia. Republicans say the moves will raise costs on working families, while Gov Abigail Spanberger has already signaled support for higher utility bills by rejoining the Regional Greenhouse Gas Initiative. Critics warn the plan puts Virginia out of step with neighboring states that are cutting taxes, not adding new ones.
