Northumberland County supervisors recently held a meeting to discuss potential changes to land use taxation. Commissioner of the Revenue Todd Thomas reported that 1,217 of the county’s 19,032 parcels, or about 6%, are taxed based on use rather than market value, a system in place since 1988 to preserve agricultural, forest, and open space. Supervisors voted 5-0 to schedule a special meeting with Thomas and planning commission members to examine the issue further.
