Many Virginians don’t have access to an attorney_ VSB report

A new Virginia State Bar report finds that 1 in 4 Virginians lack easy access to an attorney due to geographic location. The 170-page study shows 44% of localities are legal deserts, with fewer than one attorney per 1,000 residents. Rural communities are hardest hit, leaving many without representation in family, housing, and domestic violence cases. The VSB warns that over 40% of households already struggle to afford legal services, underscoring a growing gap in access to justice across the Commonwealth.
