26 year old Kalib Jamaal Rich of Colonial Beach was granted a $25,000 secured bond in Essex County Circuit Court. Rich faces misdemeanor assault and battery charges involving Akeem Tavon Grant and felony assault and battery against a law enforcement officer following a November 27 custody dispute in Tappahannock. Bond conditions include supervision by pretrial services, no contact with certain individuals, and random drug screenings. Rich, a probationary officer at Haynesville Correctional Center, was suspended from his job. A preliminary hearing is set for January 22 in Essex General District Court.
