Most Well Water in Virginia Likely Contains PFAS, Study Finds

A recent study from Virginia Tech shows PFAS chemicals are present in nearly all private wells across the state. Researchers tested over 300 wells and found trace amounts in every sample, though levels are generally low and not considered a major health risk. The study also revealed many wells contain dangerous levels of lead and coliform bacteria. Experts advise well owners to test water regularly and use filtration systems like reverse osmosis or activated carbon to remove contaminants. Funding is available to help cover testing costs.
