Verizon Wireless Tower Hearing Delayed In Mathews County

Mathews County supervisors postponed a public hearing on Verizon Wireless’s proposal to build a 195-foot telecommunications tower in Cobbs Creek. The postponement comes after the County Attorney raised safety and emergency access questions. The hearing is now scheduled for Monday, Dec. 8, at 3 p.m. at the historic courthouse. Verizon representatives said the tower would improve voice and data services for local residents, while the planning commission had previously endorsed the project. Board members pledged to finalize the conditional use permit on the new date, ensuring no further delays. The tower is planned on a 10,000-square-foot section of a 27-acre lot owned by Matthew and Stephanie Lowe.
