Mathews School Board Addresses Security Upgrades and Lockdown Concerns

Mathews County School Board recently discussed campus security, including a proposed upgrade to the division’s access control system and funding for two new School Resource Officer positions. One particular system would improve door locking, camera access, and cloud control. The board also reviewed the Oct. 30 lockdown, during which an armed suspect was detained outside school grounds, prompting concerns from parents about student safety. Officials are also exploring grant-funded weapons detection devices.
