Mathews County leaders and state legislators toured the county’s three schools recently to review ongoing renovations and discuss future needs. Asbestos abatement at Thomas Hunter Middle School is being funded by $1 million in state support. At Mathews High School, officials examined athletic fields and noted the school lacks a regulation 400-meter track. The tour also addressed declining enrollment, with plans under consideration to consolidate the division to two schools and relocate the school board office to Thomas Hunter.
