Virginia’s population center, once in Cumberland County, is now in Caroline County and continues moving north each year. The shift reflects growth in Northern Virginia and the urban crescent, leaving Southwest and Southside Virginia increasingly distant from the state’s population and economic center. Demographers say by 2030, the center will be near the Caroline-Spotsylvania County line.
