Coast Guard rescues five in life raft 260 miles off Cape Hatteras

A rescue operation began after the Coast Guard received a distress call from the Magic Bus, a 50-foot sailing vessel that was 260 milies off Cape Hatteras, reporting that they were taking on water and in need of immediate assistance. The Sector North Carolina immediately launched a rescue mission, deploying a helicopter and a rescue swimmer to the scene. Despite the challenging conditions, with high winds and rough seas, the Coast Guard crew was able to successfully hoist all five people who were clinging to a life raft aboard the helicopter and transport them to safety. The rescued individuals were reported to be in good health and were taken to a nearby Coast Guard station for further evaluation.
