Construction has begun on a new 4,400 square-foot terminal at Hummel Field airport, with steel now being erected. The $1.7 million project is mostly funded by the Virginia Department of Aviation, covering 89% of the cost. Middlesex County and builder DelCorp are splitting the remaining $187,000. The terminal will include a 600 square-foot conference room and be built to withstand hurricane-force winds. The project is aimed at improving the airport’s appearance. Plans call for additional future hangars and potential tax adjustments to attract more aircraft.
