Mathews Schools Continue To Plan Upgraded Security Measures

Mathews County Public Schools are moving forward with new security upgrades, including weapons detectors at Mathews High School and Thomas Hunter Middle School, and environmental sensors in Mathews High School bathrooms. District officials say the $84,800 state-funded initiative will also include fencing and a carefully developed protocol for staffing and deployment. They say they plan to work with vendors and learn from neighboring divisions already using similar systems to improve safety for students and staff.
