Chesapeake Academy Students Explore Urbanna Creek Ecosystems

Fourth and seventh graders from Chesapeake Academy took half-day boat trips on Urbanna Creek, sponsored by the Urbanna Oyster Festival Marine Legacy Program. Students learned about crab life cycles, oyster anatomy, and the role oysters play in keeping waterways clean. The trips also highlighted how land use affects water quality and marine diversity. Chesapeake Academy, located in Irvington, serves pre-kindergarten through eighth grade and provides financial assistance to nearly half of its students.
