Passing Banned on Robert O. Norris Jr. Bridge

Passing is no longer allowed on the Robert O. Norris Jr. Bridge. The Virginia Department of Transportation closed the nearly two-mile span overnight last Friday to paint double yellow lines along its full length. The change follows at least two serious crashes this summer, including one that killed two people. VDOT says the new restriction is meant to encourage safe travel at the posted 45 mph speed limit. Work on a replacement bridge is scheduled to begin in 2028, and traffic patterns may be adjusted as needed.
