Northumberland school officials say the district now needs $400,000 to close out the 2025 fiscal year, a major improvement from last month’s $1.3 million projection. The revised figure was presented to the board of supervisors at their recent meeting, though no action was taken. The board may call a special meeting or wait until its July 23 session. According to the Rappahannock Record, finance consultant Jack Reagan said reclassifying federal and CARES funds, along with correcting past transactions, helped reduce the shortfall. Most of the remaining deficit is tied to instruction and transportation.
