The Northumberland County Board of Supervisors is taking control of the school system’s finances and calling in Virginia State Police for a full investigation. This comes after a $54,000 IRS tax lien was filed against Northumberland County Public Schools. The lien dates back to years of unpaid or miscalculated taxes, with school officials admitting mail from the IRS was ignored or misrouted. The county plans to bring in a contractor to oversee all school funds starting by July 1.
